The Various Types of Metal | Metal by the Metre | Central Coast |

On any given day, you are exposed to multiple forms of Metal. From the pipes in your home, to the jewellery you wear and the bridges you drive on, metal plays a large part in your life, every single day.

Some common types of metal;

Aluminium:

Aluminium or Aluminum (Al) is a chemical element known for its low density and resistance to corrosion. Aluminium has a similar appearance to steel, but is lighter, weaker and sometimes cheaper. Aluminium is an excellent material for projects that will face all kinds of tough conditions such as weather. An example of this is an Aeroplane, or outdoor furniture as they are both exposed to the elements.

Copper:

Copper (Cu) is also a chemical element known to be reddish / brown in colour, soft, malleable and an excellent conductor of electricity. Copper is commonly used in things that need to be able to conduct heat or electricity, such as cookware, wires, electronics etc. Copper is also excellent for water pipes because it does not react with the water, keeping it clean and fresh.

Stainless Steel:

Stainless Steel is a metal alloy with a minimum amount of 10.5% chromium. Because of the chromium, Stainless Steel does not rust, corrode or oxidise. Stainless Steel is an excellent material for coastal locations, because the salt density in the air will not rust it like it would other metals. Stainless Steel is much stronger than its lookalike aluminum. Stainless Steel is strong and easy to maintain. Stainless Steel is used in things such as: Barbecues, kitchen sinks, the framework of houses, and cookware etc.

Steel:

Steel is a metal alloy of iron and carbon. It is very strong and low cost, and is used in a number of large projects such as bridges, buildings, weapons and machinery.
